A press of the button on the crown releases both the front and back covers simultaneously, although by opening the watch in the palm of your hand allows just the front cover to open. The workings of the 17 jewel mechanical movement may be seen through glass on either side. The movement is a 12 hour wind one meaning that you will need to periodically pull it out of your pocket to give it a little wind as the day goes on. At the time of this review, I've had this watch for about a week. So far, it is a well functioning watch. in four days of being continuously wound, it is approximately 2 minutes fast, which is not bad at all in my opinion. Like the description says, it is fairly weighty for a pocket watch and doesn't have a cheap feel to it. Both the front and back covers open to show the watch mechanics which are a classy mix of gold and blue for the most part. I was also pleasantly surprised to discover that this watch includes both a pocket clip as well as a button hole pin that are interchangeable on the chain. I have two very minor issues with this watch. I would have preferred the front glass to be made of glass instead of plastic (which I am finding is more common than not), and I would have preferred to have the chain be rotatable. With the included chain, if the chain is twisted, it will not untwist without taking out the watch. All in all, I really do like this watch, and the lack of a battery means that I will never have to worry about it going dead on me. Also, I have been wearing pocket watches for around 14 years now, and I am definitely happy with my purchase.
