I chose this style as opposed to the typical dome mainly for accessibility to the watch itself, with a plus being less area to dust. The stand itself has a good amount of weight to it, so even with a small base it wouldn't tip over if bumped into. The bottom itself has green felt on it, so no need to worry about scratching any surface you may choose to rest it on. It states that it's gold plated where other choices did not. Have to admit that did influence my choice (better quality?),no matter how many microns thick it may be. Seems to be built rock solid, with workmanship you can proudly display.
